Mrs. Colorado United States - 2022

Roxy Tru

I am Roxy Tru, Mrs. Colorado United States, and my mission is to raise awareness on the early warning signs of diabetes. This year, I became extremely fatigued, rapidly lost weight and my vision would blur. These are some of the signs. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and I am sharing my story to advocate for preventative testing. As a Writer and Content Creator, I will continue to work with the American Diabetes Association and Children's Diabetes Foundation to create a movement toward the recommendation of the HbA1c test as prevention.

The shocking reality is 1 in 3 American adults have pre-diabetes and are high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, which is life-altering and permanent. Most will never get the chance to make lifestyle changes to reverse their diagnosis, since only 10% are aware they are in the treatable pre-stage. Once fully progressed, life expectancy is reduced by 10-20 years and your chances of heart disease, strokes, blindness, kidney failure, and lower-limb amputation increases. How can we fix this? It all starts with advocation for your own health and asking your doctor to add the HbA1c test to your routine annual check-up, even if you do not think you are at risk. I have none of the lifestyle risk factors, yet this is my reality.

Although this year has been full of unexpected health challenges, Christ, my family and friends, and the possibility of you being undiagnosed are what drive me to share my story. My passion is to advocate for the health of my community, state and great country. My greatest joy is being a full time wife, mom, and homeschooling my 3 amazing children in the great Rocky Mountains.
